Expanding Community-Engaged Programming across the ILR School
Cornell’s ILR School has a longstanding commitment to improving the lives of workers and advancing progressive outcomes for communities, unions and organizations. ILR students get involved in this mission through community-engaged learning (CEL).
In fall 2021, ILR launched an engaged college initiative to expand these CEL opportunities for students, including establishing an Office of Experiential and Engaged Programs in the school. As a leader in this new office, Brigid Beachler will be creating frameworks to help evolve existing ILR internships, research and other student programs into community-engaged experiences, as well as developing proposals for new programs and concentrations.
“Participating in the Engaged Faculty Fellows Program will provide me with the opportunity to more fully understand the principles of community-engaged learning and ensure that the new Office of Experiential and Engaged Programs at ILR is creating robust, meaningful programs for students and serves as an expert resource for mentorship and support for faculty interested in learning more about engaged teaching.” —Brigid Beachler
