2019-20 Faculty Fellow in Engaged Scholarship Project
Building on decades of practical experience working with communities to resolve local wildlife-related conflicts, Paul Curtis is developing a peer-reviewed publication describing different ways to effectively engage communities on deer management issues. He will co-author the piece with colleagues with whom he co-presented a half-day Urban Deer Management Workshop at the 2019 International Urban Wildlife Conference. The purpose of the new publication is to help wildlife managers and community leaders design more effective programs for engaging stakeholders in wildlife-related decision-making, and avoid the contention and public conflict that deer management approaches may create.
