  • Develop and document existing and new student demonstrations and exercises could also be utilized in workshops held by the Local Roads Program across New York State (NYS) as the NYSLTAP Center. These practical demonstrations illustrate geotechnical engineering issues while also having a practical value to local highway and public works departments across NYS.
  • Add active learning to all aspects of the class including lectures, labs, recitations and any demonstrations and exercises. A primary goal is increasing student understanding of the underlying principles and show how they are utilized in the practice of geotechnical engineering.
  • Incorporate active local agency projects into CEE 3410. Currently the class has case study exercises which require the student to review projects already completed by local agencies. The new concept is to find geotechnical related projects planned for the future. The students will review the project and provide feedback to the local agencies to help improve the project prior to final design and construction. Both the County and Town Highway Officials Associations have agreed to work with the Local Roads Program on this concept.
