The Varna Volunteer Fire Company (VVFC) is a 100% volunteer-operated not-for-profit organization which provides fire protection and emergency medicine to residents of an area of approximately 17 square miles in the westernmost portion of the Town of Dryden, NY. Our district is just minutes from Cornell University Campus and the City of Ithaca. VVFC receives roughly 300 calls for service per year which include fires, motor vehicle collisions, electrical emergencies, and medical emergencies.
The Fall 2023 undergraduate student recruitment cycle for local college students begins on August 16th.
To submit an application, undergraduates must attend one open house session and at least one truck check. Applicants are encouraged to attend as many truck checks as possible to better understand how the department operates.
Truck checks are held at VVFC every Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm. Prospective applicants are encouraged to attend truck check on August 16th, August 23rd, September 6th, and September 13th.
Open houses will be held at VVFC on Sunday, August 27th and Sunday, September 10th from 1pm to 3pm. Lunch will be provided for folks who attend the open house.
The final due date for paper applications will be Wednesday, September 13th. Interviews will be held between Thursday, September 14th and Saturday, September 16th.
If admitted, students are required to attend a weekend of sustaining training. Sustaining training will be held on Saturday, September 23rd and Sunday, September 24th. Sustaining training is mandatory for new recruits.
