The CELT Facilitator/TA Program prepares graduate and undergraduate students to support (i.e., TA, CA) faculty-taught community-engaged learning (CEL) courses and programs and to enhance community partners’ CEL experiences with the university.
The program welcomes energetic, creative and curious students looking to contribute to higher education’s public impact while deepening their own knowledge of CEL and honing their facilitation skills. After completing the program, participants will be prepared to serve as teaching assistants, course assistants, reflection facilitators for CEL courses and programs or support roles at Cornell and beyond.
In this program, the students will:

- develop skills to better facilitate an open, inclusive and justice-oriented learning environment;
- gain experience with basic curriculum design;
- practice providing constructive and appreciative feedback on students’ reflective writing and products.
- Students with expanded repertoire of facilitation and reflection skills in order to create challenging, inclusive and nurturing learning environments.
- Develop a pool of TAs/CAs for interested faculty to draw from when they seek assistance for teaching courses.
- Build a community of students and faculty mentors who are committed to CEL as pedagogy, practice and scholarly/professional methodology rooted in a common understanding of what constitutes a high-quality CEL experience.
- Increase capacity in Engaged Colleges and across the university to advance and institutionalize student learning through community-engaged learning.
