Succeeding in the Graduate Environment
Amal El-Ghazaly is developing a new course that will assist new PhD students, particularly underrepresented minorities, in their transition to Cornell. The goal: strengthen the community and increase retention for PhD students from underrepresented minority groups.
The course will introduce students to on-campus resources and equip them with the skills needed to succeed in research, academia and their future careers. The course will also address specific issues pertaining to diversity and minority resources. Guest panelists throughout the semester will include graduate students, administrators and faculty across engineering and computer science. For the course, titled Succeeding in the Graduate Environment, El-Ghazaly will partner with Diversity Programs in Engineering to recruit incoming doctoral students from across all engineering disciplines.
