Amy Newman is the new director of Grand Challenges @ Dyson, a program where teams of students collaborate to solve pressing problems facing society. All projects relate to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and community partners will include local and international organizations.
The program includes three tiers of learning: a writing course during students’ sophomore year, a pre-project bootcamp junior year and the Grand Challenges team project senior year. In addition to coordinating the entire program, Newman is responsible for developing and teaching the pre-project course. Building the course syllabus and piloting the pre-project course is her primary focus as an Engaged Faculty Fellow.
