Community-Engaged Projects for Sustainable Energy and Climate Protection
Francis Vanek is supporting community-engaged learning across three sustainable energy and climate protection programs: Engineers for a Sustainable World, a credit-bearing, student-led network of sustainability-focused projects; Testbed Ithaca, a decade-old program that conducts feasibility studies on sustainable energy topics of local interest; and Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure for Puerto Rico, a program that launched during recovery from Hurricane Maria in 2017 and continues to assist with long-term improvement of Puerto Rican infrastructure. As an Engaged Faculty Fellow, Vanek is growing his skills in advising students in community-engaged learning projects, designing inclusive programs and projects and effectively supporting community partners.
“My purpose for the fellowship is to use the learning and interaction with other Engaged Faculty Fellows to make progress on goals for both students who participate in courses and for the benefits for partners with whom we interact.” —Francis Vanek
