15 Years on the High Road: Applied and Engaged Learning in Buffalo, NY
The High Road Fellowship Program is a successful model of sustained community-engaged learning and authentic community partnerships. And the High Road team is ready to share their model, what they’ve learned over the last 15 years and how the program could be replicated at Cornell and at other colleges and universities.
As a Faculty Fellow in Engaged Scholarship, Kristin Ksiazek is building on a current draft article about the High Road Program. With the High Road team, Ksiazek plans to engage High Road alumni in a survey, conduct focus groups, analyze and draft findings, and ultimately publish an article about this high impact community-engaged learning program.
Ksiazek is the leader and heart of the High Road, an 8-week immersive, engaged summer experience for undergraduate students with community partners affiliated with Buffalo’s Partnership for the Public Good. She teaches Community Controlled Economic Development (ILRGL 3052) each spring and thanks to her outreach, educational and organizational work, interest in the program from students and community organizations far exceeds its current capacity.
