This project examines the impact of local laws that further immigrant inclusion have on immigrants’ levels of political participation, civic efficacy and belonging. Cities across the country have taken different approaches towards immigrant inclusion, but we know relatively these laws affect immigrant communities themselves. Through this project, we interviewed immigrants in four different cities across the United States that vary in terms of how they approach immigrants. We asked immigrants about their levels of political engagement, belief that they could effectuate change and sense of belonging. All these interviews were conducted in partnership with community organizations. We are in the process of analyzing and coding the interviews now. The plan is both to produce academic work and also work that is publicly accessible and impactful.
