Sonja Skelly is revising her course, PLHRT 2350: Plants and Human Well Being, to include community-engaged learning opportunities. She is interested in finding ways for students to experience and learn, first-hand, from community practitioners, the material covered in the course, such as plants and food, culture, medicine, well-being, education, and city and community development.
Throughout the year, she aims to identify specific ways to incorporate engaged learning with community partners into the class; to identify and develop partnerships with community partners; develop engaged activities that help students better understand and experience course content; construct evaluation rubrics that enable students to reflect on their experiences; and review course modifications with the cohort of Engaged Faculty Fellows, Office of Engagement Initiatives staff and community partners. An additional objective is to revise the course structure as needed and submit it for curriculum review.
