Building on recently published research, Zoe West’s Engaged Faculty Fellowship will be used to publish a journal article on the role of popular and peer education in lifting workplace and industry standards for precarious workers. Amid the broader struggle to tackle the challenges of enforcing labor standards for precarious workers, the article will draw attention to the vital role of worker-centered training programs. The article will draw on an 18-month mixed-methods evaluation of a peer education program for domestic workers. Shaped by the principles of community-based participatory research, the study draws out the implications of the program for raising domestic workers’ workplace standards, as well as the implications for the broader movement seeking to lift standards across the industry.
