Established in 2014 after three years of preparatory work, the Nilgiris Field Learning Center (NFLC) is a partnership among Cornell faculty, experts and community members in the Nilgiris in southern India. This grant team aims to first, deepen the language learning that is critical to the success of the collaboration by building an innovative cross-platform language curriculum. Second, it intends to extend NFLC’s reach and meet participant needs by creating a mutual mentoring program through facilitated dialog among NFLC participants, teaching teams and the Tribal Advisory Council. These Intergenerational Cross-cultural Learning Circles will bring elders and young people together through a micro-grant mechanism to support meaningful planned activities in the home communities of student alumni in the Nilgiris.
