This project is about improving the world by increasing the public’s engagement with science. Embracing the Physics Bus’s mission of “awakening interest and creativity in physics for all ages and walks of life,” undergraduates enrolled in PHYS 4500 Cultivating Public Engagement in Physics will create a new hands-on exhibit that explains a physics concept that isn’t widely understood. The Cornell students will showcase their exhibit at a public event or school and then reflect and finalize the design for permanent display. This course is a step in the grant team’s effort to influence physics course syllabi to offer community-engaged learning as an option toward fulfillment of requirements and toward a culture that embraces the value of public engagement.
