Capturing the priorities, opinions and attitudes of the public through surveys is an invaluable tool for nonprofits as they plan campaigns for education, outreach and fundraising, but the capacity to conduct a national-level poll using advanced survey techniques is often beyond their reach. In this project, students and environmental and criminal justice organizations collaborate on a U.S. opinion poll that will directly and immediately inform the organizations’ goals. Students work with all aspects of the survey research process, including the nuances of wording questions, designing the survey, conducting interviews, analyzing survey data and presenting research findings. Engagement with community partners throughout the process ensures the survey provides data that will meet their needs and advance their objectives.
