Entry-ReEntry

A collaboration between Civic Ensemble and Cornell’s Department of Performing and Media Arts

The project is a collaboration between Civic Ensemble’s ReEntry Theatre Program and students in Performing and Media Arts to devise an ensemble theatre piece under the facilitation of Professor Bruce Levitt and Senior Lecturer Sara Bernstein from Cornell, with co-facilitated by Julia Taylor, executive director of Civic Ensemble. The theatre piece was performed at the Schwartz Center in February of 2021 and then transferred to the Cherry Art Space.

People returning to the community after incarceration face many obstacles. Civic’s program employs theatre as a medium through which to inform the public of the challenges of re-entry and to assist the performers in their adaptation back into the community. Students collaborating on the project will gain valuable knowledge of a nation-wide issue and participate in the expansion of PMA’s course work on incarceration.
