The Cornell Wind Symphony community-engaged tour is part of an ongoing collaboration with the Holy Trinity School of Music in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and the Carol Morgan School in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The partnerships began in January 2017 to develop a five-year reciprocal exchange among the institutions. The primary goals of the partnerships are to draw attention to Haiti’s rich musical community in the face of continued hardship after the 2010 earthquake and to foster Cornell students’ use of music as a vehicle for cultural exchange, service and global awareness. In January 2019, the ensemble will return to Haiti and the Dominican Republic, rehearsing and performing concerts with musicians from both countries.
