Expanding Cornell’s partnership with the Center for Coastal Studies
Over Spring Break 2024, students enrolled in a one-credit community-engaged learning course are traveling to Cape Cod with instructor Annie Lewandowski to collaborate with the Center for Coastal Studies (CCS) on their Outer Cape Cleanup and Ghost Gear Removal Program.
This project develops the relationship between Cornell and CCS that began in spring 2023 with the highly successful ghost gear cleanup of Cuttyhunk Island, which resulted in the removal of eight tons of marine debris from the island.
In Spring 2024, the team is working in a new geographic area to build connections and increase marine conservation impact while learning about the complex network of issues impacting marine conservation efforts regionally. At the end of the week, students present multimedia creative responses and practical solutions to the Cape community in a Provincetown-based exhibition.
