Connecting Cornell students to essential social and health resources
Social determinants of health—such as housing instability, food insecurity, transportation challenges, and interpersonal safety—have a direct impact on students’ health and wellbeing. To better understand and address these factors, Cornell University is exploring the implementation of a social needs screening tool that can connect students to tailored campus and community resources. This initiative is being developed in collaboration with Tompkins County Whole Health, the Human Services Coalition, and Cayuga Health Partners to ensure that student needs are met without overwhelming local health and human services systems.
Insights collected through this screening tool will guide the creation of new programs and services that more effectively support the student body. Additionally, sharing key findings and related initiatives will position Cornell as a leader in addressing students’ social needs and promoting health equity in higher education.
