A collaboration among WRFI, the Cornell Daily Sun and Alice Cook House
WRFI’s small-but-mighty operation reports local news that builds community awareness, connections, holds local governments accountable and helps develop local civic engagement. WRFI’s half-time news director, Celia Clarke, comes to the station with deep experience as a public radio journalist and producer. Enhancing the capacity of her team is essential to better meet local news needs.
This project explores collaborations between WRFI and student journalists at the Cornell Daily Sun and the Alice Cook House. It helps expand WRFI’s reporting capacity while teaching students important media production skills. Students have the opportunity to learn to write for radio and to contribute to the station’s daily newscasts. The project also explores further use of broadcast, podcast and print platforms to mutually leverage Cornell Sun and WRFI reporting.
